Sweet! A juice detox recipe for a happy, healthy brain

By August 1, 201820 Comments

Sweet, refreshing  and an amazing way to cleanse the body – this green juice detox recipe boasts phytonutrients to help balance the system, prevent disease and promote liver health with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and detoxing ingredients to help clear out heavy metals. Oh, and it tastes delicious!

Jake Mabanta, healthy chef and co-founder of Love Grace gourmet juice creations shared a yummy and healthy juice blend that can actually help your brain out (my words, not his). Before I give you the recipe, I want to take a moment to tell you more about the heavy metal detoxing benefits described above.

Why do heavy metals suck?

Heavy metals such as mercury, lead, and arsenic are known neurotoxins. Neurotoxins disrupt nerve transmission and that pretty much controls your body’s entire communication system. So if you’ve suffered from chronic fatigue, insomnia, depression, “brain fog,” numbness, burning or tingling sensations, poor memory, muscle spasms, and migrating pains, you may have been dealing with neurotoxicity.

Cheap and effective heavy metal detox

During his research on mercury deposits in the mouth, Dr. Yoshiaki Omura found that consumption of cilantro accelerated the excretion of heavy metal deposits from the body by acting as a chelating agent and he continued to find correlations of cilantro (AKA Chinese parsley) inhibiting early stages of malignant melanoma. Of course cilantro is just one component of a proper heavy metal detox. Check out the handy info my friend Amy Valpone of The Healthy Apple shared about her process.

Chelating, say what?

Chelating is a term used to describe a chemical reaction that occurs to aid in the removal of heavy metals. Chelating agents bind with the heavy metals, making them chemically inert and water soluble so they can be excreted without harm to the body.

Now combine the power of cilantro’s chelating properties with all the other delicious, health boosting, vitamin-rich ingredients found in this recipe and you have yourself one heck of a drink!

The Love Grace Sweet Cilantro Juice Detox Recipe

2 oranges
5 leaves swiss chard
5 stalks celery
1 handful cilantro
1 medium cucumber
1/2 lemon
1 inch fresh peeled ginger

Directions: Run all ingredients through a quality home juicer and enjoy!

Kristen, I find cilantro revolting just like your mother. A nurse friend of mine told me that this taste difference is genetic, and that to part of the population, cilantro will taste like soap! I am in that category and unfortunately cannot force myself to choke down this drink! I’m going to investigate adding other possible chelaters to my diet. Thanks for the info!

I love that you are educating about this!! Heavy metals come in the air, vaccines, too many places. I know many in the Autism community who have found improvement with heavy metal detoxing. Thank you Kristen!! Fun fact- people can switch from hating to loving cilantro. My sister used to taste soap, now it’s yum!

  • Alexandra says:

Dig it! I don’t have a juicer, but I do enjoy cilantro in my guacamole! 😀

    • KA Admin says:

OK! Well that’s definitely a start. And the avocados are excellent for your skin. You’ll just need to eat a heck of a lot more guac though 🙂 You could just put it in a blender if you don’t mind the fiber (which is great for your digestion).

Really cool article. I read your posts all the time and you always do a good job explaining
the whatever topic you’re writing about. Btw, I shared this on Twitter and my followers loved it.
    Keep up the great work!

    Hello,

I don’t have swiss chard available where I live. Is there something else that I can substitute for it and still receive the same benefits?

    Thank you

  • This is a great help to those who wanted to relax their body and mind from a long day at work. Overwork might lead to pale skin and dark circles in the eyes. But, you don’t have to worry since that this recipe will surely help you. Cucumber and oranges contain antioxidants which lessen the premature signs of aging, making skin look clearer and firmer. This is worth a try.

  • Thank you for including me!!! xooxo Love you soul sister. Hugs!

Thank you for providing a link to the research! Other food and health websites I’ve looked at talk about research and studies but don’t provide any links or any other information about the research. This recipe looks great, I can’t wait to try it!

  • Vanessa says:

I would love to try this but I do not have a juicer. Can this be modified a bit to be done in a blender (vitamix)?

    • Green Beauty Team says:

Well why not give it a try and we’d love to hear how it works out! You’ll at least get the benefit of retaining the fiber that way. I bet it will still be yummy!

  • Carol says:

How often should you juice ???

    • Green Beauty Team says:

Hi Carol, That’s all dependent upon your specific nutritional needs and goals. Some people do it every day and find great benefits from it. Whereas others are just occasional juicers and still feel great. Often the goal is to supplement a healthy nutritious diet with some very specific fruits and vegetables. You may want to consult a nutritionist to determine the best plan for you. Wishing you health! – Kristen Arnett

  • Marisa says:

Do you think this detox would help with dementia associated with Parkinson’s disease?
    Thanks, Marisa

    • Green Beauty Team says:

      Hi Marisa,
As much as I’d love to even give you an opinion on this, really I can’t because you’re asking more of a medical question that goes beyond the expertise I can offer you with credibility. I have some opinions about great things I’ve read and heard regarding juicing and various diseases being made better as an effect, but again…just opinions. I really wish you and whoever you love with Parkinson’s all the best!

  • Thank you so much for the mention and for featuring me today! You are so kind. xoxo

You are most welcome Amie! You have such tremendous knowledge that I hope people will benefit from too.
